Hip-hop has found its newest star in My_Kayla, a rapper with clever bars, fiery delivery and the ability to seamlessly blend storytelling and music. Born Michaéla Penn in Cleveland, OH, the gifted artist wrote her first rap at age 7, sparking a passion for freestyling, poetry, and songwriting. After dropping multiple singles, My_Kayla took time off from music to focus on obtaining a master’s degree. Her comeback was a debut album titled The 20th Summer which was praised as “Perfection” by LA On Lock. The concept album is a grand statement about finding inspiration in the face of disappointment. The 15-track project distinguished My_Kayla as a true storyteller and lyricist of this generation.
Her versatility as a rapper and songwriter has opened doors far beyond traditional music platforms. My_Kayla’s music has made waves in film and television, landing high-profile sync placements on major platforms like Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Disney+, Fortnite, WWE, The Food Network, ESPN, Amazon Video and many more. My_Kayla’s music was also featured in two award-winning international horror films.
MyKayla’s tracks have appeared in Netflix hits Senior Year and Lyle, Lyle Crocodile and set the tone for Hanna Berner’s Netflix special We Ride At Dawn. Most notably, her viral hit Sonata Slay was featured in the trailer of Disney’s The Santa Clauses, and earned her a 2023 GEMA Promax Global Excellence Award. Her publishing deal with BrandX music includes a catalogue under the stage name Kaya Ka$h to which two hit albums have been produced.
The EP Varsity Fresh showcased her refined skills, drawing comparisons to the hottest rapper in the game. My_Kayla’s talents extend to the stage and screen as well. She stood out as a contestant on ABC’s Press Your Luck and headlined the 2022 TuneCore Dope As Fuk* concert, further proving her electric charisma and undeniable 'it factor.' Her freestyle on On The Radar Radio solidified her status as an artist to watch, continuously pushing the boundaries of hip-hop.
Never one to slow down, My_Kayla continues to evolve with new releases like W2TH: Welcome to The High, a collaboration with her band The High, and Rap Diner, a collaborative album with DJ Scrilla perfect for the sync industry.
